ASAP and SD National Guard honored at National Red Ribbon Awards Dinner


The National Family Partnership® (NFP) hosted their 2nd annual National Red Ribbon Awards Dinner on February 6, 2013 at the Army/Navy Club in Washington DC. This event was co-sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). NFP celebrated the success of the 2012 Red Ribbon Campaign® (October 23 – 31st) and honored individuals and groups who made a difference in creating a drug free America.

During the awards ceremony, NFP recognized the 10 winners of the 2012 National Red Ribbon Photo Contest (included the Stone Family from Kadoka, SD) and presented Jeb and Columba Bush with the Enrique “Kiki” Camarena National Red Ribbon Leadership Award. Both The South Dakota National Guard and Rapid City’s Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention, Inc. (ASAP) received the “National Powers of Partners Award” for their collaborative efforts in promoting drug awareness.

Partners in Prevention recognized October 30

2012 Partners in Prevention were honored with a luncheon and awards ceremony on October 30, 2012. ASAP's efforts in the community are only possible through the support and contributions of our many community partners. ASAP is always looking for volunteers and new community partners. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The South Dakota National Guard Counterdrug Program’s Civil Operations Team was awarded the Secretary of Defense Community Drug Awareness Award at the Pentagon Hall of Hero’s in Washington, D.C. Thursday, Oct. 18.

The award recognizes the best Drug Demand Reduction program in each military service for its effort in promoting its support of outreach and prevention programs within its communities.

Middle School & High School students - Win $100!

ASAP is sponsoring a public service announcement (PSA) contest during Red Ribbon Week again this year. Submit a recorded 30 second recording of a PSA on the 2012 Red Ribbon Week theme "The best ME is DRUG-FREE" for a chance to win $100 in cash.

One local winner each at middle school and high school will be selected for the $100 prize. The winning PSA's will also be played on local radio stations throughout the month of October.

$100 prizes are sponsored by Black Hills Federal Credit Union and First Interstate Bank. For more information, see your Lifeways advisor in your school, or contact ASAP at 718-0532.

Chance to win $2000 with anti-bullying video

Bullying Video Challenge: Youth May Enter
The Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention encourage youth to submit original PSAs of 30-to 60 seconds in length that showcase ways they are taking action against bullying and promoting a culture of kindness and respect in their communities. Positive and informative videos that send a message to young people about being "more than a bystander" to bullying in their schools and communities are requested. Deadline for submission is October 14th and the top prize is $2,000. Full details about the contest including submission guidelines and rules for eligibility are online at
